To Make Life More Joyous : How Hebden Bridge & Heptonstall contributed to the early co-operative housing movement.

January 25 @ 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM GMT

History @ Heptonstall Museum

We are starting 2024 with a series of interesting talks focusing on different aspects of local history in the Valley.  The first of the year will be presented by Andrew Bibby.

Talking about …

The years before the First World War saw the development of a widespread housing movement in Britain which developed working-class homes at affordable rents through co-operative endeavour.

The upper Calder Valley, one of the heartlands of the co-operative movement, contributed to the growth of this movement, not least through the contribution of Heptonstall-born architect George Sutcliffe.
